FIRST CHURCH.
TO THE EDITOR. SIR-At the congregational meeting of the above church, held last night for tlie election or pastor the vote was taken whether power should he-sent home to send out a minister, or give a call to the Rev Lindsay Mackie. On tlie motion being put by the Moderator, the congregation present were asked to pass before the pulpit when their names would be taken. This was done ; but instead of the elder and deacon takin^ tlie names of those present, they received a host ot proxies of people who were not present, and by not being present had no right to record thenvote. If the vote had been taken in a legitimate manner (of winch, I believe, tlie Moderator was not aware), the result would liave been quite a reverse of what is recorded. I trust the Congregational Committee will learn before sending home by telegraph to-mor-row, the result pf au illegal meeting whicli will not be bnding on tlie church.—l am, kc, Watcher.
