AN example of the continuous efforts of tool and machine designers' to improve methods is seen m a new machine recently perfected and / installed m the Oldsmobile factories to face and bevel the crankshaft bearing end of connection rods. „ ' j Oldsmobile connecting rods are of special steel, drop-forged m one pftece. The large hearing end is later cvft m half, the cut removing 3-16ths ctf an inch of the metal. ' . To ensure perfect roundness o£ the finished bearing,, the original forging is slightly elliptical to compensate for the difference. ' •
