Help Yourself To Some More Comf ort
Housework is mnch easier than it used to be, thanks to the multiplicity of labor-saving devices being manufactured and distributed. Nowadays the housewife, a little ingenuity and enterprise, can make her work almost a pleasure.
GADGETS that cut the toil into two are prolific. They range from
electric sewing machines to automatic* refrigerators. In addition to all these things, however, there are so many things that can be done m the home by converting normal articles into something that can be used for half a dozen purposes. Take ironing, for instance. Of all the household jobs ironing is the least bad. If it is personal laundry, handkerchiefs, and pretty table mats, "etc., so much the better, and anyhow, it is clean work. There is something soothing about the rhythmical thump, thump of the iron and the virtuous feeling of carrying a stack of sweet-smelling, freshly-ironed-v by-your-hand clothes to the airing cupboard. For ironing a good, sturdy table is indispensible. Instead of the old ironing blanket you might arrange a table cover. It is a pad made and hinged so. that •it can be folded m two or three folds and placed m the sideboard when not m use.
One side of the pad is covered with a white washable cloth which is moisture and liquid-proof. The other side is covered with green wool felt, which is placed next to the table. It is guaranteed to resist heat. As another example, there is a good, polisher which can be fixed easily enough. ' It is like the usual mop on aj broomstick, but it has on it a large, j flat pad; any polish may be used, and | after applying it the cloth is changed and the second cloth polishes the floor.
