APPLY FOR JANUARY 29
Date Clashes With Tqkapuna (From "N.Z. Truth's" North Island Rep.) ON the question of dates the Northland TIC. have never had a fair The Whangarei organisation looked as set as the proverbial jelly when it decided to race on the much-discussed Labor Day. But with Auckland T.C. eyeing that day the following season Northland had to let go even though the letting go was hard, but big dog will always eat little dog and also save the fur. But the Whangarei "brass hats" don't throw m the towel when a blow lands near the bread basket. This time they have applied for January 29 — Anniversary Day — a day off 'for the toiler m the big smoke up north. The Takapuna Jockey Club race that day, but this apparently has no fears for those who conduct the sport m the winterless north. Still, Whangarei relies to some 'extent on patronage from Auckland, and therefore the clashing of these clubs is apparently something for' consideration. The betting element will naturally prefer the short ferry trip to Takapuna as against the dreary journey m Harry Sterling's rattler. However, though there should be no shortage of the local element, the Northland officials are game to bump Takapuna.
