EVEN PEGGING
(From "N;Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.)
THOUGH, not* m such good kidstakes •*•■ form as m his last bout with Alley Scotty McDougall had one or two new ones to put across when he met Tony Stecher m the Auckland ring on Monday, evening. ' j The match marked Stecher's v first appearance m this country and. though he conceded the Canadian over a. stone and a-half he fought through eight rounds for a draw.
A few romps, both inside and outside the ring, while the lads of the village were howling m the old familiar way put Scotty at his ease and he settled down to enjoy things.
On one occasion, after depositing Tony lovingly on the boards outside, Scptty seemed to become lonely and turned his attentions to the ' i-eferee, who kept a. good grip of the ropes, while Sootty twined his arms round his middle. . , . '■«.
SteSher made things hum after that and had the Canadian grimacing , and groaning and keeping a good grip on the ropes to prevent himself getting anywhere near the middle of the canvas.; V
McDougall Ayaded into things properly m the fifth, and dumped Stecher four or five times till he dazed him and threw him for a fall.
Stecher gained the^ second and only other fall of the match m the seventh. A half Nelson and body scissors gave him a submission.
Both men wrestled brightly through the eighth though they were obviously tiring and the referee made' it a draw.
