Trowern Again

(By Cable. — From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Sydney Rep.) TWO New Zealanders figured m the main event matches last week-end. Lachie McDonald faced Gordon Kiely, of - Melbourne, at the Leichardt arena and met with his first reverse on this side. Kiely's spearlike left hand and smart boxing was altogether too . much for the aggressive, bustling 'Maorilander, and he was clearly outpointed at the finish. The fact that the bout was waged over two-minute rounds put Lachie at a disadvantage, for men of his style like the longer sessions. On many occasions the bell intervened when he was justxwarming up to his task. The reverse will not do McDonald any harm and he is already asking for a return from Kiely. Over the Marathon journey, Reg. Trowern met Jim Pearce at Newcastle on Friday last and conceded his opponent seven pounds, v He completely outboxed Pearce, . and over the latter parjt of the affair looked like scoring a knockout. Pearce was repeatedly warned for landing punches on the back of the neck and, m the sixteenth session — it was a twenty rounds bout — he placed a wallop to the same spot as Trowern bent forward. Pearce was .disqualified.
