Star Is Improving In Southland Rugby (From "N.Z. Truth's" Invercargill Rep.) A great struggle resulted at the meeting of Star and Invercargill, the latter team surprising everybody by their improvement m back combination. DLUES scored early from a strong forward rush and Star returned the compliment with a try. The end of the first' spell left the scores six all with Star doing more passing than the blues and slightly better m footwork when checked. The second half was a rattling good go, the issue being m doubt until the ball was quite dead. For Star, R. Oughton played a fine game on the wing. Bell opened up many movements for Star. From the first five-eighths position of a hard packing and supporting seven, Padget was the pick. -• Shaw's line work was very clean. Cheyne, as full-badk for the blues, left the field after having played a faultless game. He scored *a try after receiving the ball at halfway and outpassing to Willis who returned the transfer for Cheyne to cross. Mills led a great blue pack of which Southern and Matheson were conspicuous m fine dribbling rushes. The condition of each team was superb and a hot pace was maintained all through. Pirates now lead Star by only one point. • Southern did excellently to score 11 points to 30.
