They tell high tales of the prodigal son, Of the love that always hums, But there's never a word of the "prodigal girl— Of the feasts when she returns. They praise'the boy—no matter his faults— And they dance around m pride, But they don't rejoice when the prodigal girl .Comes home with a kid at her sideThey kill the calf that is rolling fat When the boy comes home at.last, But there's never a feast for the luckless girl Who sinned m the distant past;. The neighbors welcome the prodigal son And his life is a joyous whirl, But the old man waits with a heavy stick At the gate for the prodigal girl.
