Before 'Justice Edwards, at the Supreme Court, Auckland, on Wednesday, a young fellow named William Thomas Martin pleaded guilty, to a charge of incest. The offence was committed at WaihL The prisoner handed up, a lengthy written statement to the Judge. His ,Honor stated that had prisoner but pleaded not guilty m the . lower court, he could not have been convicted and thus have evaded any punishment for 'his offence, and added that the statement handed m contained matters of palliation practically the same as brought forward m the lower court, and as opportunity to bring evidence to the contrary was not taken advantage of he was bound to take prisoner's statement as correct. He took this into consideration, but as the offence was a serious one his Honor then sentenced Martin to one year's hard labor.
