A CRUEL CARTER.
'A' horrible charge of cruelty was* investigated at the Auckland PoliceCourt on Monday when a carter named John Owen, residing at Parnell^ Rvas obarged on the revolting count, of ' working a horse with a broken knee. Evidence was given by Inspector Ad~ ler, of the Society for the Prevention, of Cruelty to Animals, which showed fchat Owen knew quite "well the terri■We sufferinge of the horse and that he had heartlessly hidden the wound,,, •which was swollen and festered,, 'by a iknee-pad.which 'greatly, aggravated the pain. . Stipendiary Kettle, having exainin&d; the animal outside the Court, and said a few things to, the odious Owen, • fined him £2 and costs. A month without the option, for * deliberate cruelty of this kind, would fee punishment more fitted to the prime.
