SIRES OF THE SEASON.

Field Battery.

The owner, of this beautiful thoroughbred last week received a cable from a , would-be buyer in Melbourne asking him to put a price on the son of Hotchkiiss, but Mr Davies refused the offer. Of course after the great success of his .three-quarter brother, Multiform, at the stud it is not surprising that buyers are to be found who' want to purchase Field Battery, but his owner will riot hear of parting with an old favorite, and he has leased him for the. season to Mr G-. M. Currie, the Wanganui owner, and he will stand the season at the latter's stud farm at Brunswick. Last season Field Bdttary stood at Feilding and was very successful and we may confidently expect to see some of his stock racing next season. Field Battery is by the Musket horse Hotchkiss, from Ladv- Evelyn, from the imported horse Perkin Warbeck, out of Pulchra (imp.) by Rosscruciane, from Formosa. Field. Battery is a magnificent specimen of a thoroughbred: He stands nearly 17 hands and covers a lot of ground, being of a bark brown color and is perfectly tempered. He was foaled in 1898, so that he is quite a" young horse, but given a fair chance there can be no doubt about his success at the stud.
