The Nelson Monument. — The completion of this work has at length been determined on by the Woods and Forests ; and to tliis effect a communication has been made to the artists to whom the commission has been confided, by the Earl of Lincoln. The subjects proposed for the four bassi relievi are the victories of Cape St. Vincent, Copenhagen, the Nile, and Trafalgar ; and the sculptors appointed to execute these works are Mr. Watson, Mr. Woodington, Mr. Carew, and Mr. Ternouthr The four lions will be executed by Mr. Lough. The relieved works will be in bronze, — the lions in stone or granite. — Art Union, Her most faithful Majesty the Queen of Portugal has conferred upon Sir Isaac L. Goldsmid, Bart., and his heirs, the dignity of a Baron of Portugal, by the title of Baron de Goldsmid and DePalmeira. — Chron. Feb. 17. The Rev. Dr. Adler, chief Rabbi of the united Jewish congregations of the British empire, was presented to her Majpsty at the late levee, by H.R.H. tie Duke of Cambridge, and Sir Moses M out eft 1 ore, F.R.S. We regret much to find that Sir John Ross, the enterprising polar navigator, has become bankrupt. The cause was the debts incurred upon his exploring expedition, which were chiefly or altogether undertaken at the expense of bis own funds, or those of his friends.
