AMERICA'S DEAD
BURIAL IN_AUCKLAND AREA AT WAIKUMETE REMOVAL HOME AFrER WAR By an arrangement between the United States authorities and the Auckland City Council, a portion of Waikumete Cemetery has been set aside for tho burial of American servicemen who die in the vicinity of the city. Some members of the various arms of the United States Forces in New Zealand, who have died either from wounds suffered in action or from injuries received in accidents in New Zealand, are already buried there. Each grave is marked by a plain wooden cross, bearing the name, rank and other identification of the man. It is possiblo that the remains of the men will be returned to their own homo towns after the war. A United States service order received in New Zealand states that all men should be buried with their identity discs. Those who have died where there are tho facilities have also been embalmed. The cemetery is one which has already claimed New Zealand servicemen who have died in this war, together with the large number of last war veterans for whom part of tho ground has been set aside. Thus, for the first time since both countries fought in France, representatives of the two nations lie together after having served a common cause. >
