BRIDGE CLOSED
STRUCTURE AT MANGAITI (0.C.) TE AROHA, Monday The bridge ovor the Waihou River at Mangaiti has been closed to all traffic as from to-da,v. The dangerous state of the decking and some of the piles has caused the controlling authorities concern for some time. Tito bridge was built over 35 years ago at a cost of approximately £2OOO and serves a considerable volume of traffic. The closing of the bridge will prove a great inconvenience to settlers in the I'll stow district. Cream cartage contractors serving the district and cartage contractors ddivering metal from the Tirohia (piarries will be lorced to take the only other alternative route via Te Aroha. Mr. W. C. Kennedy, chairman of the riako County Council, left last evening for Wellington to discuss the position with the .Marine Department and the Public Works Department. If permission can be obtained to have the river closed to traffic, it is proposed to erect a low-level bridge.
