MATCH FACTORY FIRE
OUTBREAK IN WELLINGTON [by TEI.KCIUI'H —I'll ESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Monday The ignition of some matches when a workman was cleaning machinery underneath a match conveyor belt caused a fire in the factory of Bryant and May, Bell and Company, Limited, match manufacturers, of Tory Street, Wellington, at about ">..'!() p.m. to-day. The flames were kept in check by a sprinkler alarm system, but when three lire engines arrived clouds of smoke were issuing from windows on the first floor. The brigade's main task was to protect stock on the ground floor by means of salvage sheets from damage by water. The extent of the damage to the stock could not be ascertained to-night. COUNTRY HOUSE BURNED NO WATKR AVAILABLE (0.0.) TE AROII A, Monday Fire destroyed-a I'our-roomed dwelling, owned by Mr. Raymond Harrison, of Wairakati, during the absence of the occupants. Owing to the absence of a water supply, the blaze could not be extinguished.
