SUPREME COURT BUSINESS TRIALS BEGIN TO-DAY r Jhe last quarterly criminal sessions of the year will open in the Supreme Court this morning, when the charge to the grand jury will be. delivered by Mr. Justice C'allan. The calendar consists of 21 cases against IS) men and two women, and includes threo charges of negligently driving a motor vehicle so as to cause death and one of failing to stop after an accident and render assistance. Many of the other cases have to do with allegations of theft, fraud, burglary or forgery. The criminal trials are to bo followed by the civil business, which is to commence 011 Monday, October 30. There are eight contested divorce petitions to be heard by a Judge and jury or by a Judge alone, and over 130 undefended divorce petitions. Among the 53 civil claims for which fixtures have been obtained are two based on allegations of breach of promise of marriage, one by two doctors against the Auckland Hospital Board asking for a declaration that a condition in their agreement for service bo not binding, and one against tho Auckland Builders' Union of Workers asking that an amendment to rules he declared null and void and that a receiver he, appointed. Of the claims for damages only nine arise out of motor accidents, a much smaller proportion than has been usual of late.
