DOCTOR'S DEATH
LOSS TO HAMILTON HOSPITAL SUPERINTENDENT SERVICE IN THE GREAT WAR [i no.M OUlt OWN cohtikspondent] HAMILTON, Monday Tho clcntli occurred suddenly to-day of Dr. Monro May Hock in, medical superintendent of the Waikato Hospital, at the age of 46. Dr. Hockin ■was tho son of Mr. Harry Hockin, of Castor Bay, and was born at Drury. Ho was educated at tlie Whangarei School, tho Auckland Grammar School and 01 ago University. After qualifying M.D., Dr. Hockin went to tho Great War as a lieutenant and returned as a major. He Mas in charge of tho King Georgo V. Memorial Hospital at Botorua for a period and later entered private practice at Manaia. After serving on the stalf of tho Waikato Hospital foiS a
period Jig took up practice at Kaponga, but returned to the Waikato Hospital as medical superintendent in 1928. Last year lie was made a foundation member of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He is survived by his wife and two sons, now pupils at the Wanganui Collegiate School. Referring to Dr. Hockin's death today, Mr. F. Findlay, cliairman of the Waikato Hospital Board, said that Dr. Hocking had been skilled both as a physician and in hospital administration. He had devoted himself unremittingly to his duties in the hospital and had spent long hours'in his work". During his 11 years in charge of the institution its accommodation had grown from 230 to 400 beds and the staff had increased proportionately. It was largely due to his tact and popularity that such harmonious relations had existed in the hospital. He would be sorely missed by the board, patients and staff.
