RATES FOR SHEARING
an increase sought HIGHER PRICE FOR WOOL [by telegram—own correspondent] HASTINGS, Monday Hawko's Bay shearing contractors intend to seek, a higher rate in view of the increased prico to growers resulting from the wool purchaso by Britain. At a meeting of shearers and contractors it was decided to seek a rate of £3 6s a hundred for the present season and to appeal to all contractors below that rato to have adjustments made. A resolution which was carried stated that this course was urged in view of the increased costs of living since the last shearing season, and the increase of practically one-third on last season's prices. It was also decided to nsk the Government that no shearers be called upon for military service before the end of the shearing season.
