AUCKLAND TROTS

EVENTS ON SATURDAY

THE JELLICOE HANDICAP DISCUSSION OF PROSPECTS RED FLUSH SOLIDLY FANCIED BY ABAYDOS Fino fields aro carded for the first day of the Auckland Trotting Club's Spring Meeting, which opens at Kpsojn on Saturday, the liest-class horse,s being engaged in the Jollicoo Handicap and the Electric Handicap. Chief interest will bo centred in the Jollicoo lliindicap, limit 4.31, 2 miles, in which Bayard, lied Flush, Kowpio's King, and Our McKinnoy will endoavour to lessen their assessments in view of tho Auckland Centenary Gold Cup, the limit of which will bo announced early next week. Good form at tho distanco has been revealed by Red Flush, who has won several times and beaten proved stayers. .Ho did not display his correct form in tho, August Handicap, but may now bo in improved condition. Bayard won twico at two miles last season and ejicli timo owed his victory to gamo finishing efforts. His success in tho 'Waimato Plains Handicap at Ha\vcra was such as to give him-good prospects in this flold. • Chance for Kewpie's King Compass may have a chance if tho going is heavy, but Kowpio's King is a better prospect. Kowpio's King displayed fino form this timo last year and in his latest races has given tho impression that ho is returning to form. Our McKinney rejoined tho winning list when ho succeeded in the August Handicap, and when attuned thoro is no donying his staying ability. Gold Drcdgo is now on a mark- from which sho must bo respected, if paraded at her best. Tho consistency of Sandusky will keep him in favour with his largo army of supportors. Ho was not quito ready when ho ran fourth in tho August Handicap and should bo improved. «, Uonuku was. tho star performer in the north last season, but has not had a race sinco his dual success in May. If ho is- at his best, Ucnuku should tako beating. Howover, 110 is also in tho Electric Handicap, which may bo moro suitablo at this stage. Those most discussed at present aro Red Flush, Sandusky and Kowpio's King. Fine Field in Sprint Thero is a fino field of sprinters in tho Electric Handicap. Bayard, Kewpie's King, Our McKinney and Uonuku aro engaged earlier arid all have fino form at a milo and a-quartor. Howovor, at tho handicaps, Ucnuku, who is on 2.4G with a 2.47 limit, has tho best credentials. Tho other three should add interest, and possibly their form in tho Jollicoo Handicap may givo a lino 011 their prospects. Now on tho limit, Ncrvio's Last, a fino sprinter, with a 2.4 milo record against time,.is entitled to respect, and slight improvement on his form at Wellington should make him difficult to beat. Fcrnbrook Lass was very prominent in short races last season, and Isobel Derby is a speedy maro who appears to bo returning to form. Both wero in good class in the South Island. Kowpio's Triumph is still capable of a sound effort, especially if tho sting is out of tho ground. Our Peggy won tho event last October j from a good field and is always difficult to beat at tho distanco, being a very smart beginner. Star Pronto is not without prospects, but ho may requiro a race to sharpen him up. Although moro at homo over a longer distance, Kenworthy has performed very creditably in sprints, being unplaced only onco in sij{ attempts last season. Ho demonstrated good form by running second from 36 yards in tho August Handicap and seems sure to run a fine race. Ironsido should add interest to the contest and tho raco should bo beneficial in view of his New Zealand Cup engagement next month. He raced creditably at Adding- I ton in August and may bo improved. Somo in demand may be Ucnuku, Kenworthy, Ncrvio's Last and Our McKinney.
