Lcvien, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday, in sentencing a wharf labourer, Joseph Farrell, widower, aged 08, on eight charges involving excess .sustenance amounting to £2GB -Is 3d, receivedover a period of seven years. Accused admitted six charges of making false statements to obtain sustenance, and denied two of false, pretences. Prosecuting on behalf of the Labour Department, Mr. \V. A. Black said that accused registered lor relief when the unemployment scheme began ill 19.51. He declared that he was married and maintaining a wife and two children, and he had been in receipt of relief ever since. In October, 39.'50, an inquiry officer interviewed accused about the employment of his son, and when ho asked to see the boy accused made excuses.
