REFUSAL TO WORK
NON-UNION WATERSIDERS i OBJECTION TO LASCAR CREW ' INCIDENT AT STRATHEDEN Because they objected to working in • association with Lascar seamen eijrht non-union workers engaged yesterday to assist in unloading passenger baggage from the Stratheden were discharged, the crew performing the duties for which they were engaged. In what is described as the usual practice the crew were discharging passenger luggage, it being the duty of the waterside workers to take delivery 011 the wharf. When objection was raised to Lascar hatchmen the waterside workers were promptly put off. It is stated that union labour regularly performs duties with crews of any nationality or race in similar cii- ■ cumstances.
