Cutting Grass Bents
One of the problems of gardeners is the cutting of the tall flower spikes of grasses after the lawn has been mown. The mower does not cut these, and severing them by hand is a wearisome job. This difficulty can be overcome by using a home-made scythe constructed from scrap at no cost. One side of the curved portion of a wooden coat-hanger is furnished with discarded razor blades, fixed flat to the wood with their cutting edges protruding slightly beyond the inside edge of the wood. Drawing pins or tacks will hold the blades in position. A handle three or four feet long completes the job, which if used with the blades parallel to the ground and drawn across the lawn will be found very effective. Even a large lawn can be cleared very quickly.
