Street Scene
Tranced in the stainless radiance of the moon, The street lies sleeping. Up Us huddled side Gaunt houses, staggering like Wornout, pride, Gape with the dazed eyes of a drunken loon. Sunk in a silver, apathetic swoon The air is stagnant as an ebbless tide. . . . Till of a sudden down the stillness glide The lilting accents of a foreign tune. Three children, holding hands, in ■ party dress, Faces upturned, eyes shining in the light, Have caged the spirit of .their loveliness Within the silver song of their delight, J That like the memory of a faint caress, Lingers long after they have passed from sight. —C. Comber.
