GOLDEN WEDDING
MR. AND MRS. C. F. BAKER The fiftieth anniversary of their wedding took place on Thursday of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Baker, of Urapukapuka, Bay of Islands. Mr. Baker is a direct descendant of Captain Hansen, master of tho mission brig Active, and is also a nephew of tho late Mrs. Hannah King Letheridge, tho first white woman to bo born in New Zealand. His father was the late Mr. William Baker, who at one time owned all tho kauri forests in the Whangaroa district, and his mother was the former Miss Amy Hansen, Mrs. Letheridge's youngest sister. Mrs. Baker is tho daughter of tlio late Mr. and Mrs. William Sydney Phipps, who arrived in Russell in tho 'Bo's and established a bakery and store in that town. Mr. and Mrs. Baker have taken an 'active part in the advancement of tho Bay of Islands district, and recently Mr. Baker donated a fine site for the municipal buildings that it is proposed to erect in Russell as a Centennial memorial.
After retiring from active business in 1920, Mr. and Mrs. Baker moved from Russell to Urapukapuka Island, which Mr. Baker had purchased some years before. Mrs. Baker is at present an inmate of a private hospital in Whangarei.
