RIVERHEAD SCHOOL

Sir, —Tho Riverhead School committee have received notice from tho Education Board that the school is to be closed down and that the children will be transported a distance of seven miles to a new school to be erected on the new military aerodrome at Whenuapai. When one reads in the Herald that a force of Chinese bombers raided a Japanese aerodrome and destroyed 50 aeroplanes, and in the same paper the Spanish air forces are doing the same, or worse, it makes, one wonder why the Government decides to build a school m the first place on such a potential danger site, and then to decide to transport 50 children seven miles from a reasonably safe place to a new school. Forty-one of these children lived within a radius of one mile of the school. It would lie far better to bring the Whenuapai children to lliverhead where they would be out of danger and also away from all the noise of the aeroplanes. In Wednesday's Hkiuld is a description of the hangars to be erected with concrete tops. I wonder what sort of a roof will go on the school.
