FACTORY DAMAGED
PALMERSTON NORTH FIRE MOTOR-TRUCK IN FLAMES [by telegraph—own correspondent] PALMERSTON NORTH, Thursday A factory and store at the rear of tho furniture establishment of Mr. W. Pegden, in The Square, Palmerston North, was tho scene of a serious fire this evening. The flames were first seen issuing from a motor-truck standing in the storeroom and it was then discovered that the truck was tho centre of a woll-establishcd outbreak. The building, which possesses two storeys, with oxterior walls of brick, contained a great deal of inflammable material. There was little escape for the smoke and fumes, which, with tho heat, made tho task of tho fire brigade difficult It was three-quarters of an hour before tho fire was suppressed and, by that time, the interior was extensively damaged. The actual extent of the damago could not be calculated to-night, but it is expected to be heavy.
