SERGIA WINS

IjSPRINT TO RACE CALL fw ■ . # HACK CUP TO SILVANUS |pj|4 , . ' 3|"V ' Ip VICTORY FOR RED SAND Iff-; If FAVOURITES FARE WELL [by telegraph—own correspondent] r f L ;/ • NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday Fine, warm weather favoured the opening of the Kgmont Racing Club's Summer Meeting at Hawera to-day, but the attendance was not quite so good as last year and one or two small fields cramped betting. A good recovery, •II however, was made from an early deli. cline and the decrease for the day was % not important. Sergia won the Egrnont • Cup and Race Call the Flying Handicap, there being only three starters in .the latter event. The other open race was won by Red Sand, and the Nolan Hack Cup fell to Silvanus. Favourites '! fared fairly -well on the whole. The going was fast and in excellent order, Sergia's time in the cup being a race ■ record. -

> The totalisator figures for the day x were £15,838 10s, as compared with 1f(616,630-41 decrease of £71)1 10s. Results: — OHAWE HURDLES, Of X* 1 ."»<>; iy 2 miles !•' fI—RIOTOUS. L.
