SOIL DEFICIENCY
THE VALUE OF COBALT SUCCESSFUL EXPERIMENTS [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] ROTORUA, Thursday A meeting at Rotorua of the Auckland sub-provincial branch of the Farmers' Union discussed the results achieved in the district by the use of cobalt.
Experiments carried out in the Putaruru, Tokoroa and Rotorua districts were outlined by the president, Mr. K. S. Cox. The value of limonito in the correction of soil deficiency had been traced to the fact that it had a very small percentage of cobalt in it. Unfortunately, cobalt was extremely expensive, costing 4s a lb., and was almost unprocurable in the Dominion. He himself had obtained a hundredweight, and was using it with great success mixed with ordinary manures, at tho rate of 4oz. to the ton.
