MONEY FOR ROADS
ROTORUA COUNTY NEEDS APPLICATION TO GOVERNMENT [by telegraph—owx correspondent] ROTORUA, Tuesday Grants totalling £7125 for new road formation, metalling and constructional work have been applied, for by the Rotorua County Council for inclusion in this year's Public "Works Department estimates. While the engineer's estimate of the cost of work, which should • be undertaken under the five-year plan suggested by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, is £72,800, provision in this amount has been made for the improvement and maintenance of tourist roads, the responsibility for the maintenance of which has been a
live topic of discussion between tlie council and the .Government during the past few years.
An estimate of the urgent work which should be carried out on tourist roads this year has also been submitted to the Minister in charge of the Tourist Department, the Hon. F. Langstone, and includes the following amounts:— Okareka Lake Road, reconstruction, £2450, maintenance, £250; Gloucester Road. £310; Okere-Hamurana Road, £3800; Ngongotaha Mountain Road, £800; Lake Rotokawau Road, £800; Waimungu Loop, £450.
