Mr. Knight p looked back and saw that Mr. "Mager I was missing from the temporary seat I on the chassis. He immediately stopped I and found that Mr. Mnger's coat had I become caught in the driving shaft and 1 had wound round the shaft a few times. Mr. Mager was lying on the | chassis unconscious with severe head f injuries.
A St. John ambulance was summoned and the injured man was taken to the Auckland Hospital, where it was found that his skull had been fractured. Last night his condition was re> ported to be serious.
