AMALGAMATION ISSUE

FRANKLIN COUNTY DISTRICT [from our own correspondent] TUAKAU. Tuesday Amalgamation with the Franklin County Council was discussed at the monthly meeting of the Tuakau Town Board last evening. The council asked the board's views, and asked to be supplied with statistical information. The council's letter explained that it was obtaining statistics from the town boards, drainage boards and rabbit boards within or contiguous to the county boundaries as a preliminary to convening a conference. "I don't think there will be much likelihood of three town boards concerned —Papakura, Waiuku and Tuakau —being compelled to amalgamate with the council," said the chairman, Mr. G. Arrowsmith. He said lie would not oppose amalgamation if it could be shown that there would be a considerable saving. At present, the county rate was only id less than the Tuakau Town Board rate. The meeting agreed to supply the council with statistics.
