PROMISING SWIMMER
YOUNG SWEDISH STAR Swedish swimming experts are delighted with the recent form displayed by Bjorn Borg, the 18-year-old star, who they predict will within a very short tiino outdo the wonderful exploits of Ame Borg, whose 1500 metres free-style world's record has withstood every " assault since August, 1927. Those swimmers are not related. Bjorn Borg recently swam 400 metres in 4m 51 4-5s in a 25 metre pool, as against Arne Borg's Swedish record of 4m 50 3-10s. Swedish commentators drew attention to the intermediate times in the respective performances. When be established his record, Arne Borg passed the 100 metres mark in ]in 4 5-10s, 200 metres in 2m 19s, and .'SOO metres in 3ni 33 3-10s. Bjorn Borg swam the first 100 metres in 1m ss, 200 metres in 2m 20 4-ss, and 300 metres in 3m 395, thereby covering the final .100 metres in 3 7-10s faster than die! Arne.
It is of interest to note that on the day Bjorn swam his 400 metres, lie had previously covered 200 metres in another event in the excellent time of 2m 13 l-ss. The latest Borg is certainly a swimmer of class, and his compatriots arc, after such excellent performances, justified in tipping liiin to do something sensational at the Tokio 01 vmpiad in 19-10, when ho will be 20, and should be right at his athletic peak.
