WHANGAREI LIGHTING
COMMUNITY PROPOSAL [from our own correspondent] ■WHANG-aREI, Tuesday A community-lighting scheme, based on the present system, was suggested by the Whangarei Chamber of Commerce in a letter which the Whangarei Borough Council received last night. One letter pointed out that tli6 council's efforts to establish an efficient system had failed, owing to many business men refusing to take advantage of the facilities offered. The chamber suggested that, if necessary, the cost of community lighting could be included in the rates. The matter was referred to the Electricity Committee for repoti. Mr. W. Thomson was appointed a member of the Assessment Court on behalf of the borough. The librarian's report stated that the receipts for May totalled £(3 l lis 2d, compared with £32 12s lid for May, 1936. The council approved the special committee's report on the Government subdivision for houses on the reee.utlyacquired estate, subject to the corners of six sections being rounded off.
