FRENCH WAR SLOOP
VISIT TO AUCKLAND ARRIVAL ON JULY 30 / Advice has been received by the French Consul that the French war sloop Amiral Charner, commanded by Commander Adelus, is expected to arrive at Auckland from Papeete on July 30 and she will be in port until August 5. Mr. F. B. Dwyer, representing the Department of Internal Affairs, has conferred with the consul regarding the arrangements for the reception of the officers and crew of the ship. The Amiral Charner is a sister-ship to the French war sloop Savorgnan de Brazza, which visited Auckland in 1933. They are two of seven vessels built in France during 1931 and 1932, each being designed for service in the tropics.
