WORK AT WHITE ISLAND
REMOVAL OF MACHINERY A party of seven men will leave Whakatane for White Island, when conditions become suitable for a landing, to 501110 ve a quantity of plant, machinery and products. The plant has been acquired by machinery dealers from the liquidators of White Island Products, Limited, a company which established considerable machinery on tho island for the working of sulphur and low-grade guano. The men will take stores for three months, as the work is expected to be fairly lengthy, and they also will take some carrier pigeons for communicating with the mainland. They originally intended to leave for the island last week, but conditions were unsuitable. White Island has been bought by an Australian svndicate. which has investigated the possibilities of using fumaroles for the evaporation of &ea water.
