OIL IN MANCHUKUO
MONOPOLY ESTABLISHED PROTESTS NOTWITHSTANDING British Wireless RUGBY, June 17 The Foreign Secretary, Sir Samuel Hoare, replying to a question in the House of Commons to-day, stated that no reply had been received from the Japanese Government to the British protest against the setting up of o.d oil monopoly in Manchuria. In the meantime, the Manchukuo oil monopoly had come into force. In the circumstances, the British and American oil concerns had decided that they had no alternative but to withdraw from the market. The conditions of withdrawal were understood to be the subject of discussion between the companies and the Manchukuo authorities.
