MAJESTIC THEATRE

Thrilling suspense and much exciting incident are the main characteristics of " The White Cockatoo," a baffling mystery film which will have its final screening at the Majestic Iheatre tomorrow. The story, which deals with attempts by rival gangs of criminals to secure a fortune belonging to the heroine, receives great dramatic force' from the excellent settings. The principals are Jean Muir and llicardo Cortex. The film to commence at this theatre on Friday is " Beyond Bengal," an epic of remarkable heroism which should greatly stimulate the public taste for pictures dealing with exploration and genuine scenes of wild animals. NATIONAL AND PRINCE EDWARD Ronald Colman's characterisation of Clive in the stirring historical drama '* Clive of India," which will be shown at the Nation.il and Prince Kclward Theatres for the last time to-morrow, is one of the finest portrayals of a great historical. figure seen in Auckland for some time. The film is wonderfully presented and makes execellent entertainment. The cast includes Loretta Young and C. Aubrey Smith. One of the fine shorter films also being shown is the latest Walt Dishey coloured cartoon. The new film to be presented on Friday is " Rumba," a most attractive production, which presents the latest ■ dance sensation of the same name. George Raft and Carole Lombard are the principals.

STRAND THEATRE The comedy drama " The Little Colonel," which is the main attraction at the Strand Theatre, is pervaded by a subtle charm which stamps it as one of the most delightful films presented in Auckland. This atmosphere is largely due to the piquant grace and personality of the talented juvenile Shirley Temple, who shows amazing acting ability in taking the lead in a cast which includes Lionel Barrymore and Evelyn Venable. The story is very pleasing and the romantic value of its theme is considerably enhanced by the colourful setting of old world Kentucky. STATE THEATRE, ONEHUNGA Fay Wray and Robert Armstrong give exhilarating performances in "King Kong," an exciting film which is the main attraction at the State Theatre, Onehunga. "White Ensign," with John Stuart and Esmond Knight in the leading roles, and a charming comedy, "Dora's Doughnuts" (Shirley Temple), are also being shown. PRINCESS THEATRE The talented dramatic actor Warner Oland is seen at his best in the latest of the thrilling "Charlie Chan" series of films, "Charlie Chan in Paris," which is the main picture on a splendid programme at the Princess Theatre. A very dramatic production, "The People's Enemy," also is being shown. CRYSTAL PALACE THEATRE The great English comedian Tom Walls gives a fine performance in the delightful Ben Travers farce "Lady in Danger," which is the main attraction at the Crystal Palace Theatre to-day. There is an unusually good supporting programme. NEW REGENT THEATRE A splendid double-feature programme at the New Regent Theatre, Epsom, is headed by "White Ensign," a gripping film with John Stuart and Esmond Knight in the leading roles. The second attraction is a charming musical film, "Melody Cruise." GARRICK REPERTORY THEATRE Walter Hackett's hilarious farce " It Pays to .Advertise " will be presented by the Garrick Repertory Theatre in the Lewis Eady Hall on the nights of Tuesday, June 25, and Wednesday, June 26.
