MISSING MOTOR-CYCLE
FOUND AT POLICE STATION CHARGE OF THEFT FOLLOWS [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] DUNEDIN, Tuesday When looking for articles that have been stolen the police are frequently called upon to travel far afield, but it is rarely that the object of their search is found in the yard of a police station itself, yet, according to a statement made by Chief-Detective Young in connection with a motor-cycle recently stolen at Oamaru, that is what actually happened in Dunedin.
When a young man who was charged with the theft of the cycle appeared in the Dunedin Police Court this morning, Chief-Detective Young said it was alleged the cycle was stolen by accused at Oamaru on April 12. Accused asked to be allowed to try the cycle out with a view to purchase. He then rode it away, but did not return. However, yesterday accused rode into the yard of the Dunedin police station to do some work there and the motor-cycle was recognised by a detective as the one reported to have been stolen from Oamaru. Accused was remanded until June 26, bail being fixed at £SO, with a surety of a similar amount.
