LAND VALUATIONS

WAIKATO PROPERTIES OBJECTIONS BY OWNERS SOME REDUCTIONS MADE [ntOM OUR OWN* COBBESrONDENT] HAMILTON, Tuesday A number of applications for the revaluation of town and country properties were considered by the Assessment Court, which sat in Hamilton to-day. Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., presided, and associated with him were Mr. J. C. Potts, Government assessor, and various district assessors.

A revaluation of his property of 171 acres at Te Kawa was sought by Telfer Scott McFarland. After a short adjournment the Court reduced the unimproved value from £lll7 to £7OO. Stating that his farm of 500 acres at Gordonton had been swept by peat fires early in the year, Peter Doe sought a reduction of his valuation, which had been fixed at £IB6O capital and £IOSO unimproved. The Court consented to a revised revaluation of £ISOO capital and £750 unimproved. Application for a reduction in the capital value of a section of one acre at Hamilton was made by Catherine Scrimshaw. It was stated that the section was valued at £915 in 1930, but had since been reduced to £620. This was still considered too high, as applicant had purchased the section last year for £375. The property was revalued at £475.

The District Public Trustee sought a reduction in the valuation of four sections at Frankton, property of the estate of the late Mary R. Jolly. One section was reduced from £6OO to £550, but the valuations on the remainder were sustained.
