DENTAL HOSPITAL
"WORK TOO ELABORATE" BOARD MEMBER'S COMPLAINT INADEQUATE ACCOMMODATION A suggestion that work done at the Auckland Dental Hospital was more elaborate than it should be was made by .Mr. J. H. Kinnear at a meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board yesterday. The hospital, which is in the board's office block in Kitchener Street, is intended to cater for the needs of the poorer class of patient. In presenting the report of the Relief Committee, the chairman, the Rev. W. C. Wood, said the accommodation at the dental hospital was inadequate. There was nothing in the nature of a retiring room for patients recovering from anaesthetics. It might be desirable to obtain a suite of rooms in some neighbouring office building and to locate the dental hospital there, releasing the rooms at present occupied for use by the office staff. Mr. Kinnear said a possible explanation of the rush of work at the dental hospital was that more was being done than was laid down under the conditions provided when the hospital was established. There was a suggestion that the dental surgeons were doing work that was too expensive. He noticed that crowns were being fitted on the teeth of patients, and he wished to know whether those crowns were gold or not. The whole matter called for a full report, as it was possible that the work might, easily be cut down, obviating the need for larger premises.
Mr. E. H. Potter said two schemes for providing increased space for the dental hospital and also for the office staff were already before the Buildings Committee.
At the suggestion of Mr. Wood, it was decided that Mr. Kinnear should act in conjunction with the Relief Committee in bringing down a complete report on the work of the dental hospital.
