WATER FOR PAPATOETOE
SINKING OF NEW BORE GOOD FLOW OBTAINED Reports on the sinking of the new 6in. bore at the Papatoetoe Town Board's waterworks were submitted at a meeting of tho Town Board last night. The turncock said drilling had been carried out to a depth of 540 ft. and a further pumping test had been completed. The flow had been 3400 gallons an hour, which was 400 gallons an hour more than at the last test. After a conference with the well borers the following finding had been arrived at: — The main supply had been tapped at the present level and tho prospects of a further supply being obtained at a deeper level were doubtful. There was a possibility that any supply tapped at a deeper level might not be so satisfactory in quality as tho board's main supply, which was got at a similar level. Drilling had therefore been stopped and steps had been taken to link up tho now source with tho permanent pumping plant. Tho now supply would bo tapped when the water was certified as satisfactory by the Health Department. The chairman, Mr. W. J. Nicholson, said the board had hoped to obtain an auxiliary supply of about 9000 gallens an hour. It was satisfactory to know, however, that the board had tapped a new source. Tho report was received and the turncock's recommendation adopted.
