INJURIES PROVE FATAL
TAKANINI MOTOR SMASH DEATH OF NAVAL RATING WOMAN'S CONDITION SERIOUS One victim of the collision between a track and a motor-car on the Great South Road, Takanini, early on Monday morning, Mr. Alfred John Francis Whitehouse, aged 29, single, a naval rating in H.M.S. Diomede, died in the Auckland Hospital shortly before seven o'clock yesterday morning. Mr. Whitohouce was admitted to the hospital suffering from a compound fracture of the skull, fractured arm, and severe burns to the back and legs. An inquest was opened j'esterday before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., coroner, and adjourned after formal evidence. The funeral will take place at New Plymouth. The condition of Miss Florence Wigmore, aged 20, of 1 Kingsland Avenue, Mount Albert, who suffered a fracture of the skull, is still serious. The third occupant of the motorcar, Miss Judith Blake, aged 19, of 106 Dominion Road, Mount Eden, suffered concussion and cuts. Her condition was reported to be fairly satisfactory.
