VIOLINISTS DEATH

FRIEND OF AUSTRALIANS PICCADILLY GRILL ORCHESTRA LONDON, May 21 Mr. do Groot, the well-known violinist of the Piccadilly Grill, died yesterday. Ho was well-known to Australian soldiers in London during the Great War. He had been ill since early in April, suffering from a weak heart and undermined health, and had been in a nursing homo. Deceased's daughter, Miss Clara Db Groot, told an interviewer in April that her father would never play again. "He is to retire permanently from the stage and concert platform, she said.

Mr. do Groot was 52 years of age. He made his London debut 25 years ago at a West End hotel, whore, his delieato playing brought him fame in a few weeks. The Frince of Wales admired his playing, and Mr. do Groot was a fref|uent guest at many of his parties. He possessed a 2000-guinea violin. During the war years Mr. de Groot became a great favourite with Australians. When well-known Australians entered the Piccadilly Grill, he called the orchestra to their feet, and they played "Australia will be there."
