CONDITION OF ROAD.
HAMILTON TO NGARUAWAHIA.
PROTEST MADE BY MOTORISTS,
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Tuesday.
The condition of the Main South Road between Hamilton and Ngaruawahia was described by members of the Hamilton agency of the Auckland Automobile Association. at a meeting last evening, as being deplorable, shocking, and disgraceful.
Mr. W. J. King said there was still a deadlock between the Waipa County Council and the Main Highways Board over the question of the subsidy. The council declined to accept an offer of £3 for £1 for permanently surfacing the road. While the authorities were quarrelling the road was deteriorating and the motorists and public generally were suffering. It was decided to make the strongest possible representations to the Main Highways Board, insisting upon adequate maintenance of the highway, and that the members of Parliament for Hamilton, Raglan and Waikato lie requested to assist in obtaining immediate action.
