AUSTRALIAN RAILWAYS.
LONGER HOURS PROPOSED
NEW CONDITIONS RESENTED
(Received May 7, 8.55 p.m.) SYDNEY, Hay 7. Concerted action has been taken by the Railway Commissioners of New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania to induce the Federal Arbitration Court to lengthen the working hours and modify the privileges of the railwaymen, who are calling mass meetings to discuss the development, which is causing considerable resentment.
Two logs are to be served on the railway employees next Friday, for the purpose of introducing the longer hours and reducing the privileges for Sunday duties. Members of 15 trade and professional organisations have accepted the conditions, and the individual employees will be asked to accept or reject them in writing before May 25.
