HIGH INTEREST RATES.
PROTEST TO PRIME MINISTER.
[by telegraph.—own correspondent. ] NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday. The conflict between the terms Roverning loans advanced by the State Advances Office and the terms required by the Local Government Loans Board was referred to the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, to-day. Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., said he considered it was monstrous that settlers should be required to pay 6 per cent, interest and up to 3 per cent, sinking fund 1 . He hoped the Prime Minister would endeavour to rectify the positipn.
Sir Joseph said he would look into the points raised. He would .see if an adjustment could be made on the 25 years" period imposed by the Loans Board.
