NORTHCOTE BOROUGH.
NEW COUNCIL MEETS.
The Northcote Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. A. E. Greenslads, presiding. The newly-elected members of the council were installed. In welcoming the members, and extending congratulations 6n their election, the Mayor said no difficulty should be experienced in continuing the policy followed by the late council. Rates should not be increased, and faith should be kept hy placing loan proposals before the ratepayers for the permanent construction of Onewa Road and Lake Road. He was pleased to be again associated with a council unanimously favouring the harbour bridge project. Immediate action should be taken to impress on the uoyernmenh the public demand for an early start with this most important, work. The waterworks engineer reported that 2,941,000 gallons of water had been used during last month. A water service had been laid to the Birkenhead and Northcote Tennis Club's property. Mr. H. Weaver was elected deputymayor. The Mayor was appointed the Northcotc member of the North Shore Watci Board. The Mayor made eulogistic references to the services rendered to the borough by Messrs. P. J. Ryan, A. T. Munn and E. J. Fraser, and a motion recording their valuable services was placed on the I minutes.
