THIRD PARTY INSURANCE.
THEFTS AND DRUNKEN DRIVERS. [by telegraph.—press association.] WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The half-yearly meeting of the North Island Motor Union was opened to-day. The president, Mr. A. J. Toogood, referring to " third party" insurance, which comes into operation on June 1, said the Act presented serious pitfalls for the motorist. The executive suggested that the matter should be discussed and a resolution passed asking the Government that more elasticity should be shown in the definition of " private car " used occasionally for business purposes, and that the Act should be amended accordingly. . . . A resolution was carried unanimously reaffirming the report Sent to the chairman of the Highways Board by the Wanganui Association in regard to "banking" on curves. It, was resolved to bring the matter of adequate punishment for the theft of motor-cars before the Minister of Justice, arid also the matter of drunken motorists The report, which was adopted, contained n. concluding clause congratulating the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, on settine up a Transport Ministry. The president said Mr. J. S. Hunter's appointment as Transport Commissioner met with the entiro approval of the executive. An Auckland remit, . " Notwithstanding the proposal to form two Highways Boards for the Dominion, this does not meet the request of the motor associations for more representation, s.nd it is contended that motorists should have two representatives on each board," was carried.
