Appreciation of the services git'? education by Mr. J. D MrKenzie. whose death occurred at Whaaparei on Monday, was expressed at a meeting or the Auc" land Education Board yesterday. The chairman. Mr. A. Burns, said Mr. MeKenzie aad seen 25 years' service on the board, which was probably a record for New Zealand. He was kindly and or good character and anything ln cause of education was no trouble t° him. All through his public life his sole ambition was to help everyone v> ith vhoffl he came in contact. . Otlier members of the bf-ard praised Mr. McKeuzie's work, Mr. E. C. Bankswho is now the senior member with years' service, stating Mr MeKenzie had probably travelled 153.000 miies without remuneration in the cause of education. The keei interest taken by Mr. MeKenzie ir the interests of children was raentioneJ by Mr C. \\ Garrard, senior inspector 01 schools A resolution of condolence with " r " McKenzie's relatives was carried.
