SENATE VOTES £4,850,000.

The Senate to-day adopted an amendment to the first Appropriation Bill, providing an additional £4,800,000 for the enforcement of prohibition. This was carried in the faco of a protest by Mr. A. W. Mellon, Secretary to the Treasury, who stated that more than £2,600,000 had previously been appropriated. The Senate then adopted an amendment to give the President-elect, Mr. Hoover, £50,000 for an investigation of prohibition enforcement. Both resolutions must now bo passed by the House of Representatives before they can come into force.
